im asking how much does the person in the band actually get, not how much their lable makes

well when you are in a group you spit the money. some will give u a percentage of the retail price of the CD and some will give you a percentage based on the wholesale price. They go by a point system. A CD is worth 100 points. I will use the group DA band for ex: they got 4.5 points. So if the CD cost $10 they got $0.045. yep 4 and a half cents. Being that is was 5 of them they can't get that much per CD. You make most of your money doing shows and endorsements. That's why you see artist doing other stuff like clothes, Cologne, TV, shows, movies. Music is a stepping stone for a lot of artist.

there are several sources of cash....

(not really in order from greatest to least)

* the recording contract itself (say 4 years - 3 albums)
*royalties off music sold and radio / tv play
*live tours (at first usually part of recording contract)
* appearance royalties

... over the course of a contract say 5 years - perhaps 2 tours and several appearances & radio tv play = 15 - 20 million
