i usually say shut up when i'm feeling bad or a little irritated(though i feel like this most of the time, so..) i only say please be quiet when i'm tired and exhausted or sad too much to even be mad or shout at people to shut the f*ck up, cause it recquires too much physical strength for me(funny,hah..?)

Saying shut can be rude or playfull, depending on how you say it and when. But usaully I just say be quite to them if Im fed up with whatever.

I will only say shut up if i am playing around. that happens mostly with my b/f. If i seriously wish a person to stop, than i say will you PLEASE be quiet. With emphasis on the please.

Niether, depends on who, a guy, let him prattle on, a nice female, who chatters, I listen. Eventually she'll let me know if she can do more than talk., or she'll let me know I should get lost. But 'shutup ' is rude, or 'be quiet' ain't my style. "Easy honey, they'll hear us" is better.
