Question on the N word?

If using it is OK for blacks but not whites, then how is it not like saying a white person can use this water fountain and blacks can't?
We can only end segregation when we stop segregating ourselves. It's time we were just humans, not black, white, rich, or poor.

My point here is not wanting to use the N word. Of course there is freedom of speech. My question is trying to illustrate what seperates our communities. It's not the word, it's the mentality.

If black people don't want others to use that word, they should stop using it themselves. The african-american culture, i feel, has taken a bunch of steps backwards from the Martin Luther King Jr days as to setting the example for furture generations of that race. They have to BE the example and not be subjected to stereotypes. If they don't, how can they expect others to?

But it is still not ok to use any derogatory word. Period.

It is NOT okay for anyone to use that term. I'm black and I don't use it. Most blacks that I know don't use that word because they know that it's offending. I seriously don't know why some blacks call each other the N word. Maybe they think it's cool, but whatever it is, I think they need to grow up. I tottaly agree with you. No matter what, we're all humans and we're all gonna die eventually.

saying ****** isn't ok for anyone in my opinion. when white people say it, then we view it as offensive, but the way blacks say it is meant to be friendly. like another word for homie. also, in the context where its used, hispanics and blacks seem to be able to greet each other by saying what up my ******. as for the water fountain thing, i think you got that right. it is segregation, but i don't think its meant to be. i think the use of the word ****** is for close, non white friends. Its not right, but we can't change the world...

Because when whites use the word it reminds everybody of how they used it centuries ago.

I personally hate the word, and feel that we give it too much power by carrying on about it.

There isn't some random law banning you from using that word. I hate that word and I don't use it and I hate that people do use it. Honestly, for the blacks who do use it in my opinion they deserve for a white person to call them that because it's ridiculous to use a racial slur among your friends as if it's some positive thing.

Agreed. There never was an end to segregation, it still exists today, it just isn't Government mandated.

Because, generally, when it's used by whites, it's in a derogatory way. *ga has a different meaning than *er. Think about it this way...I've hung around a bunch of white guys who call each other *ag..."hey *ag, what's up" etc...but if a black guy walked by you and said "hey *ag what's up" how would you react? It's all in how it's used.

white people can use the word! thats right. Just go ahead and call your fellow white people the N word. No body is stopping you.
