Do you mean your ethnic heritage? Try starting with your parents and older family members. Then try genealogy.com. You may also want to join a genealogy club.
My family on both sides have been into this for years. My mother used to take me to a graveyard where all our family and ancestors were buried. I can do that now myself. The first step is just doing you, your parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents. Then go farther by getting info from your parents and grandparents. Aunts and uncles are helpful too.
Try a basic tree diagram.

My mother is a geneologist and has the census and birth records showing we come from poor Irish Immigrants, Dutch Settlers, some English Mayflower passengers and some Scottish folks. Apparently a drunk Irishman sleeps with whomever is closest

If you don't have a family tree...make your own. Start with you, your parents, grandparents, great grandparents. Ask your family members for the names of their parents and grandparents...so on and so on.
I know this is just a project for you now, but in your later years it may be a hobby or interest to you. Genealogy is a pretty neat thing when you can find stories of your great, great, great, great grandparents.
A great place to start is ancestry.com

Well, I look at my birth certificate and it says AMERICAN! THAT is my nationality. Look at yours. BUT, if you are looking for your HERITAGE, ask your parents or somebody in your family. You can also type your name in your browser.

Try asking your parents... Mine were very proud of their heritage and would go on and on with stories of my ancestors
