I am 18 weeks pregnant and my doctor finally told me it's safe to dye my hair....as long as I do it in a ventilated room of course. But I've heard so many things about how the hair won't take the color. Well I'm getting married in exactly 2 weeks and there's no way I'm getting married with these horrible dark roots!! Is there a brand that works better than others during pregnancy or are they all pretty much the same? Any tips?? And if it just so happens that my hair turns a different color than I want....how long should I wait before I try again?

hi-I dyed my hair when I was pg-=the only reason they say not to do it now, is because the smells can agrivate your morning sickness (if you have it)
the products today are very safe, etc.

I just used the cheapest brand from the dollar store--and it worked excellent!! must have been the extra hormones, lol

Most women who dye their hair, continue to do so during pregnancy. 2 of the reasons people say it isn't a good idea, is because the pigmentation of your hair and skin can change during pregnancy, meaning your scalp may be more sensitive, or the colour may alter when you dye your hair, and because if you were to have an allergic reaction it may put the health of yourself and foetus at risk. But if youve used the same dye before, you know you are not allergic. I used to have highlights when i was pregnant, and when the bleach got on my scalp, i got blisters, which I never experienced so severe before pregnancy. However, when I decided to go dark, I used an ammonia free dye and it was fine. There will always be a minority who advise against EVERYTHING in pregnancy, but the majority do not see a problem with this. Good luck with the baby plans! :)

I use Clairol Natural Instincts color. It's semi-permanent and has no ammonia. This means if the color looks bad, you can wash your hair a bunch of times in a row the first day and get most of it out. I've always had awesome results though. It washes out gradually over 4 - 6 weeks.

If you end up liking the color, go back and get the permanent type in the same color.

Also, you should consider dying your hair it's natural color - the color the roots are now.

Your hair will definitely take. I dyed my hair when I was pregnant and I always use Garnier Nutrisse, and used it during my early pregnancy and my baby is fine. Just make sure you're in a room where there's a lot of air coming through and whatnot. You don't' want the fumes to be all in your face.

Congratulations on your pregnancy && marriage!!! =]
& Best of Luck

I would be careful about dying your hair, usually the hair doesn't hold color very good while pregnant. I remember once when I dyed my hair, and it was permanent, well it ended up coming out. Than when I tried streaking it blonde (I am a brunette) well lets just say my whole head ended up bleached and I hated it.

Everyone is different though.

Oh and if you don't like it and want to redye it I guess you are supposed to wait 24 hours. One of my friends dyed her hair twice and it ended up gray, she looked horrible than the next day she ended up having trouble with her scalp, really dry and itchy, they say your hair will fall out but I haven't seen that happen yet.

During pregnany, your hair and nails both grow like crazy, if your taking the prenatal, so dying your hair is a waste of time. And just because it is said that he could possibly harm my baby, i decided not to do it, my baby is more important then my hair being a different color..

I was gwen stefani-blonde through my second pregnancy and I experienced no problems. You should be fine; just defintely make sure you are in a well venilated space and have someone else do the job if possible to reduce skin contact with your dye materials.

I kept my hair bright pink through my first pregnancy. I have found there to be no truth to the theory that hair dye is bad/doesn't work during pregnancy.
