Sodium chloride is table salt. NaCl. In solid NaCl, Na+ and Cl- ions are bonded to each other by ionic bonds to make a 3D lattice stucture.
When added to water this lattice dissolves and Na+ and Cl- ions seperate.
NaCl(s)........> Na+(aq) + Cl-(aq)
Also, heat energy is absorbed from the system when sodiu chloride dissolves.- an endothermic reaction- So you might notice that the temperature of water slightly decreses when you dissolve sodium chloride in water.
If it's Sodium metal, then its another story. Na reacts vigorously with water and produce sodium hydroxide and hydrogen gas
2Na(s) + 2H2O(l).....>2NaOH(ag) + H2(g)
lot of heat energy is produced here so sodium may catch fire. The reaction can be quite explosive, even in room temperature. It is strictly advised to do it only under the guidance of your teacher, with extreme care and caution. And use cold water and a very small amount of sodium. Use protective goggles.

Sodium Chloride is a fancy name for table salt. But put sodium in water on its own would catch fire and then explode, so wear safety goggles!

Sodium chloride is just the chemical name for salt. It dissolves into the water - making salt water. Hardly very exciting. Sorry to disappoint you.

You get a solution of sodium chloride. There will be no explosion. Salt is the same compound you add to you food when cooking,or used for pickling etc.n You actually eat it. Hahahaha.

NaCl is sodium chloride, also referred to as common SALT. The salt will dissolve and have a similar taste to the ocean.

Nothing. But if you add sodium to walter, then you can get an explosion.
Sodium and Sodium Chloride are two different things.

It dissolves. Simple as that.
If you want to know chemically then the ions separate into Na+ and Cl- by forming a complex with the water.
What do you think the sea has in it?

The boiling point of the system will go up (boiling point elevation) and the freezing point of the solution will go down (freezing point depression). Other than that nothing will actually happen exept you'll end up with salt water.
