"Brandenburg, 31, was shot to death inside Buck’s Bishop Avenue home early Friday, seven weeks after Brandenburg’s latest release from jail. A preliminary investigation suggests the shooting was justified, authorities say.

Buck, who told police he was hit in the head with the sledgehammer, was treated at Fort Hamilton Hospital. He told police in a 911 call that he shot the intruder.

Brandenburg suffered a fatal gunshot to the head, three shots in the chest and a fifth shot in the left side, Butler County Coroner Richard Burkhardt said. "

So are your constricted panties still telling you that guns "are a bid thing" or was this entirely justified?

Yes, I meant "bad thing". Not sure how I created that error in the first place. Anyway, for coragryph, here is one where it was on the street and not just in someone's house (two gun owners stop baddy):

So getting killed with a sledgehammer is better than shooting in self defence.

Hope you do not meet anyone like that.

From the facts you present, it looks like Brandenburg broke into Buck's home and attacked him with a sledgehammer.

So, yes, I'd agree with the conclusion that Buck met the requirements for justified use of lethal force in self defense.

And assuming you mean "bad thing", this story doesn't justify carrying guns anywhere outside the home. It only justifies having a gun inside the home. If you want to prove your point that guns are generally useful, you need a different example.

Yes, this was absolutly justified. Not only does our system of criminal justice recognize a need and even a duty to protect one's own life, but we also have a right as members of the human race to use deadly force to protect ourselves from people who are tying to kill us. This was a good thing and I am glad that there is one less "Brandengurg" among us in society.

Anyone that is defending their life, or the life of a loved one is justified in using deadly force against an attacker.
