No. This question has been asked several times in the past, but the answer remains, no. Even though there is a graphic that pops up at the beginning that states that it is based on true events, those lines were simply part of the plot of the movie. Both Joel and Ethan Cohen have admitted, between chuckles, that the entire story is fake and there was no true inspiration for the movie.

--I remember that was also stated.
--Also "Cool Running"--was based on a measure of truth!---but I could not find much on the history!

---BUT IT seems that most of the time hollywood just goes so far and perhaps because they end up making most of the the movie fictional , not much is published on the events--with the real facts!

No. The entire movie, including the "real events" disclaimer at the beginning is entirely fictional.

no that was kind of an inside joke between the coen brothers, probably because of the wood chipper scene.
