I'll tell you the very unique and romantic way my husband proposed to me. I had just graduated from college and he told me that I needed to find my graduation gift. He created a series of questions and puzzles that I had to answer.

Each answer took me to another room in the house until the final one took me to the bedroom where he had written on the mirror in lipstick...Will you marry me? I turned around and he was standing behind with with a ring in his hand.

He's such a fun, great guy!! Good luck to you!

I think that being asked in a public place is a nono, as it does not allow her to show her true feelings.
If it is public and not embarrassing then it is cool (like a sky writing message just using her first name).

The most romantic thing would include being asked on bended knee. Make sure you do not ask when you have just had sex, or she will always wonder if it was a mistake on your part. Something simple like standing on the beach and drawing a heart around her then asking is really romantic. Or asking her by writing it in the sand and giving her options of yes, no or maybe.

Remember, it is nervewracking for you to do the asking, but it is also a big moment for her, and a very serious moment, so she must be able to gather her thoughts properly for a serious answer - it will be a shock no matter what, hopefully a wonderful shock.

R V, think of the things and places that are important to both of you and plan your proposal around those things. The most important thing to a woman is that you throw caution to the wind and show and tell her how you can't live without her. If she is shy do this in private with just the two of you. But, if she is not extremely shy, then do it in a public place. People have rented billboards, and arrangement for sky writing, and announcements on the screen of your favorite movie theater, a scavenger hunt which sends her to several places with little gifts, songs, and romantic notes with continuing instructions on where to go for the next clue---with your proposal (always on bended knee) to be the last stop. Whisking her away for a romantic weekend in Vermont, the Caribbean, or anywhere she'd like, in order to take the weekend to impress her and propose is also an option. Just think about what you like to do together. Good luck to you.

I know someone else said the fortune cookie thing, but this is a little different. Take a fortune cookie and put it in the microwave for about 10-15 seconds until it becomes soft and pliable. You can then open it up, take out the paper, insert another paper (if you want), insert the ring and then re-shape the cookie and let it cool. It may take you a couple of tries but it's actually easier than you think. Imagine her surprise when she's just finished a yummy dinner and then goes to enjoy her cookie just to find her engagement ring inside. Be careful not to burn your fingers and make sure she likes to eat fortune cookies. You can even dip it in chocolate and then put it in a Chinese take-out box (you can get these in pretty colors at party supply stores), fill the rest of the box with uncooked rice or tissue paper, and skip the whole going to dinner bit. Put a little bow on top and voila!

For extra credit - you can even give her a disposable camera to unwrap first. When she asks what it's for, just tell her you want to capture her response when she opens the box. TRUST ME --- Girls will immediately want to tell everyone they just got engaged and it's so nice to have a photo of the occasion.

You could also do what my husband did -- he waited till I was taking a nap and slid the ring on my finger. He said that he did it so I couldn't say no. :) So so so sweet and quite a surprise!

Just be creative; you know your lady better than any of us yahoos. :)

A romantic way to be asked for my hand in marriage would be to just ask. Set up the scene first. You may want to ask her parents for their blessing first. Then you could set up a location or activity that has great meaning to both of you, or has great meaning for her. Consider all the details: place, day, time, music, candles, who else is present, will you have it photographed or videotaped, what you will say, will you get down on one knee, the ring, etc. Regardless of how it goes down, she'll love your proposal if it is sincere and heartfelt.

The most romantic way would be a way that showed me that he knew exactly what I would want it to be like.

Because if a man is ready to propose, he will know the woman well enough to figure out what would be the most meaningful thing to her.

Not something to talk about in years to come, or to impress his buddies, but something personal that reflects the relationship and that he was truly thinking of her.

If he can't figure it out, maybe he needs to take some more time to get to know her heart.

Well for me anything romantic occurs at the beach. After a lovely picnic of my favorite foods on a nice sunny day, we would take a walk on the beach and as the waves crashed to the shore , he would get down on one knee and ask me to marry him.

My best friend - now my husband left a note on my door. When I came home I read it. He said he wanted to court me and I had to re-read it cuz I thought why would he be going to court? Then it dawned on me as I kept reading how he felt. He was watching me thru the window and when I got done reading it there was a knock on the door. I opened it looked down and there he was - so nervous - with this huge bouquet of flowers and said the next time you see me on one knee will be the day you'll agree to be my bride. It was so cool. Old fashioned and very cool. Good Luck
