I am currently using the standard router issued by EMBARQ (Sprint) for my PC but i want to change to a router that has more ports so i can hook up the ol' xbox. do i have to contact EMBARQ to switch routers or does it matter?

is it possible to just unplug the cable from my pc then into the xbox and vice versa without any major problems?

EMBARQ is not a router its a modem. You want to ADD a router, and I suggest either Dlink or Netgear. Amazon.com and ebay are great.

You can add an external or wireless router that allows you to plug the modem in. I am assuming the modem has one port. The others normally add 4.
