I've found that oftentimes it's easier to talk to a total stranger about VERY personal issues. Be it on IM, or through e-mail. Just be careful not to give too much info., like your real name or address, or whatever. It seems to me like with a stranger, you can be totally honest and not worry about whatever opinion they might form about you. You can just be real whereas with someone you know, you'll have a natural want to "sugarcoat" your real feelings.
