Jason Kendall is a better defensive player and will be starting at catcher for the Oakland A's.
Piazza, who gets fantasy credit as catcher because of last season, was signed to be their DH (and backup catcher) after Frank Thomas signed with Toronto.

Just to correct one answer. Piazza WILL NOT be playing any first base. He is an awful 1st baseman.
He will be a solid DH, and Jason Kendall will be a below average catcher.

They will both start and will have different roles, Piazza as DH and emergency catcher and Kendall as the regular backstop.

Both Kendall and Piazza would be starting for the A's. Kendall would be the A's staring Catcher, hitting at leadoff and Piazza would be the A's starting DH batting at clean up.
