Is there a web site where I can find any information about a writer's background?
I am seeking information about where he came from or went to school.

So do a basic web search using that writer's name and appropriate key words, like school or biography.

Well, with respect, what other kind of background could you possibly be looking for? A criminal background? It ain't gonna happen.
If you are looking for a general background on them you might
a) look for their own website
b) fan websites
c) Wikepedia... although I'd caution that you should take anything you read there with a grain of salt since anyone, as you probably know, can edit it at will.
