Check the accelerator pump discharge nozzles for an interrupted or weak fuel shot.

To do this take the air cleaner off and look straight at the front two throttle bores. In the center of the bores you will notice 1 -2 concentric booster venturi rings. Pull the throttle lever open quickly. You should see a straight shot of raw gas being pumped through the accelerator nozzles splashing on the outer booster venturi rings. If this shot is nonexistent or weak the accelerator pump must be replaced. All accelerator pump passage ways should be sprayed out with an aerosol can of carburetor cleaner. Berryman B-12 is one of my favorites. Available at Wal Mart.

Possible causes are fuel volume (not enough fuel pressure), or a restriction in the fuel line, or a faulty fuel pump. Other causes could be a restricted exhaust system (which generally will cause an increase in engine coolant temperature). Can you rev the engine in park or neutral or does the engine sputter while you are trying to rev it? Will the motor die if you put the truck in gear while holding the brake and NOT giving it gas? Did you set timing with the vacuum line unhooked on the distributor? Lots of factors to consider, but I am leaning towards a fuel delivery problem.

I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MY 84 F-150. BUT MINE HAD A 351W. I CHANGED EVERYTHING I THOUGHT IT COULD BE. TURNED OUT I HAD A VACCUM LEAK AROUND THE INTAKE MANIFOLD. AND MY VACCUM HOSES WERE NOT ROUTED PROPERLY. ALSO YOU MIGHT CHECK TO SEE IF THERE IS A VACCUM LEAK AT THE CARB PLATE. I USUALLY TAKE A CAN OF BRAKE CLEANER AND SPRAY AROUND THE CARB AND INTAKE MANIFOLD AND IF THE ENGINE EITHER REVS UP OR SHUTS DOWN , WHERE YOU ARE SPRAYING IS USUALLY WHERE THE PROBLEM IS. ALSO CHECK THE CARB TO SEE IF IT IS SPRAYING ENOUGH FUEL. COULD ALSO BE A STICKING FLOAT IN THE CARB. GOOD LUCK MAN. NEED MORE FORDS ON THE ROAD.

It isn't an ignition system problem since you have replaced all of those components. Look to your carb! Sounds like flooding to me which means that there is too much gasoline going into the cylinders when you open the throttle.

A carb rebuild and adjustment will fix the problem.

If it has smog gear...get a new erg valve...it's probably loaded with carbon and fails under a load.

check your vacuum lines. check the air intake control valve, it is on the throttle body on top.
