I volunteered helping my mom at a nursing home with an organization she volunteered for. I met a lot of nice and friendly people there. The residents are often lonely and love to have someone to listen to them...I learned alot listening to them, from their happy childhoods to how they made a living, etc.

I am planning on making a 900+ mile drive this summer to New Orleans to help rebuild a house for a Hurricane Katrina victim. I don't know whose house I'll be working on, but that's the best part.

I have. When I was 19 I volunteered at a hospital in the business office calling other volunteers who hadn't volunteered in a while, and stuffing envelopes. About 10 years later I volunteered at a homeless shelter serving food. It was an eye-opening experience.

when i had a house fire, others came to my aid, financially. since then, i have volunteered time to fund raisers at my fraternal clubs raising money for national charities as well as some local families.
right after 9/11 i single-handedly raised $2000 which i sent to the NYC widows and children of fire fighters and police.
the most recent was a benefit for a local family who suddenly lost the father, and i DJed the event. there i raised $500 in tips and auctioned off 2 karaoke/dj shows for another $420. the word "I" was used a lot in these statements and it's worth mention that these things would not have happened without the work and participation of so many others.
edit: i added a thumbs up to all of you who donate your time doing good deeds for others!

Yes. I volunteered for PDAP, a drug abuse safe house. I just helped out around the house, kept it open and helped the counselors with errands and such.
