Mild baby shampoo is fine. Guinea pigs, especially males do need to be bathed because their fur can get very oily.

Don't use human shampoo, it will leave a residue on the skin and will cause itching, no matter how much you rinse. You could use a shampoo for Rabbits, found at Pet store. But why would you need to bath your pet ? And I hope your not using cedar shavings as bedding, it can kill because of urine and the oil in the shavings mixing together. The best bedding is a paper product called Carefresh sold in large bags, very absorbent and does not have any odor, and easy clean up if it gets on the floor. And don't feed your pet guinea pig sunflower seeds in the shell, they leave sharp edges when cracked open and can puncture the inside of the mouth and lead to an infection.

It is generally not a good idea to use human shampoo - or human anything - on an animal. For dogs, it is ok to bathe them in baby shampoo if you have no dog shampoo, but I don’t know if it’s the same for guinea pigs. I would definitely not use just regular shampoo on your pig, since it tends to be painful for the eyes and also dry the skin out badly.
You don’t actually need to bathe him at all unless he is filthy for some reason. Don’t do it “just because.”

NO! Do not use regular shampoo, soap, dishsoap, bodywash, etc. Their skin is easily irritated by the strong ingredients in these products, and the smell of them is also too strong for a g-pig.
You can use unscented baby shampoo, which is what I use for my pig.
You can also use a pet shampoo made specifically for guinea pigs.
If you have never bathed your pig before, go slow and be gentle. Use warm (not hot or cold) water, and be sure to hold him so he doesn't go slipping about in the tub, which would likely scare him.

don't use human shampoo. i am not sure if it will harm your guinea pig, but it's not worth the risk. If u can wait to bathe it, i would go to the pet store and buy some guinea pig shampoo, just to be safe.

To be honest I wouldn't bathe a guinea pig unless he has something that just won't come out of his fur. I would use a bath spray that you can spray on and you won't have to wash him. it's instant shampoo basically and it's for small and furry animals. you can find it at petsmart. I'd use that instead of bathing him. If you do bathe your guinea pig make sure that you blow dry him really good after the bath. don't let him air dry because he can get sick.

Yes you can bathe your guinnea pig and if you want to use human shampoo, use tear free baby shampoo(just in case it gets in your guinnea pigs eyes it won't sting). But the best thing to do is to use guinnea pig shampoo.

im sorry but you wanting to bath it and it needing bathed is a different thing! its a guinea pig not a baby! the only reason a piggie may need a bath is if its got extreemly dirty or if has investation of fleas or mites. if there is no reason to bath then dont.
