I'm installing a drain line from a new air handler in my crawlspace. The only cement I have is the grey colored cement made by Carlon. I've used this numerous times on grey Sch. 40 and 80 PVC, but is this acceptable for use with plumbing PVC, or do I need the "clear stuff"? I'm an electrician, so bear with me! Thanks in advance.

Since PVC cements actually eat into the pipe, I don't think you will have any problem. PVC is PVC. Drainlines do not have pressure like water lines do. The old PVC/CPVC (combination glue) glues have been made non-compliant for code. You need to use the proper cement for each type.

No problem. If all you are doing is running a condensation line you will be just fine. The only real difference between the two is the color and sometimes the pressure rating of the pipe. I've cheated on occasion and used clear on conduit and never had a problem. Just remember to give your pipe or fittings a 1/4 turn for the best possible bond.

Good Luck!

If it is just a drain and under no pressure the gray is fine
