I keep hearing that all pregnant women have those freak out moments in which they question the wisdom of bring a child into the world for whatever reason, so I don't think your situation is terribly unusual. I would bet that most people do wonder how competent they will be as a parent.
I'm ten weeks along, and I have NOT had that experience YET, but who is to say I won't have it next week? ;^)
I think you are right about life being unpredictable. The future with or without a baby is uncertain, at best.
But here's the thing: As long as you don't dwell on your insecurity, you will do fine. You have to believe that God isn't going to give you a situation you cannot handle. It's the people who stay in those moments of panic and never trust themselves that screw up the most.
Godspeed.

It's normal to feel this way!!!! I got pregnant when I was 20 and had never even held a baby before or changed a diaper! You'll be amazed at how adaptable you are when you need to be. When your baby is born you'll realize that this beautiful little person you created is counting on you for everything. Those motherly instincts will come, and with the support of friends, family and your spouse/bf (especially those with baby experience) in time you'll be an expert! Oh, and don't forget to buy the books "What to Expect When You're Expecting" and "What to Expect the First Year." These books were like the Bible to me! Good luck to you and congratulations!

Completely normal...between worrying about if I will miscarry and have a healthy baby, I worry about what kind of mother I will be. I can't keep plants alive either!! I don't know how to cook...hardly ever clean...trying to go to school and get a degree....and sometimes I still act like a baby myself!!!! But I know once I see that baby I will grow up real quick and do whatever it takes to ensure that baby is okay. Babies do not come with manuals and Im a "by the books" type gal myself. 5 months ago I wanted a baby....and I get more scared by the day....but we will be okay...good luck sweetie

It is normal. I thought the same thing about what i was doing. When i was 5 months pregnant, i took some advice on what to do with my constantly meowing cat at night. They told me to give her a half a gravol, i did, well, she went a little wacky and started to drool, alot. She was fine, but i freaked, I almost killed my cat, how the hec am I going to take care of a child. Now, my daughter is 4 months old and a very happy child. It is hard, but it does come natural. And support from your family helps alot too. Just do what your instinct tells you to do after your child is born and you'll be just fine.

You should talk to a counselor. I had those same feelings and the panic got really bad. I had panic during my delivery, I had a really hard time, and got Postpartum Depression. I'm not saying that will happen to you, just that you are at a HUGE risk if you don't talk to someone about how you're feeling and put those fears to rest.

That's normal. :) I've had some thoughts like that earlier in my pregnancy and now mine is a little past the halfway marker. I feel confident that my best and my hubby's best will be way beyond good enough and we'll figure out the rest as it happens. I've reached a calm confident stage. Good luck.

That's normal. I was like that with my first, too. But I ended up talking to a counselor, and it helped me SO MUCH.
