It's OK when the car is moving but at stop light the needle shoots up to hot. Had battery replaced Thusday (this is probably irrelevant?) and the next day it started running hot...Help Please...Any ideas????

95,000 miles, have never replaced coolant that I know of, don't recall replacing timing belt, no coolant lost from overflow bottle...Had 80,000 check up, they did a lot of stuff, I didn't really pay attention to what all they did...

OK, I checked A/C--- the fan comes on and it is cooling fine...

more detail needed like -miles /how long since coolant replacement done /timing belt replaced? /any coolant lost from the overflow bottle ?

make sure your cooloing fan is kicking on. A quick way to check if the engine is cool is to turn on your a/c, if it doesn't kick on then its a bad fan motor or switch

you may need to replace your thermostat.
