"A zombie is purportedly a dead person whose body has been re-animated. Stories of zombies originated in the Afro-Caribbean spiritual belief system of Vodoun (Voodoo), where zombies are humans who have had their "Ti Bon Ange" (Creole from the French "petit bon ange", or "little good angel") or soul stolen by supernatural means or shamanic medicine, and who thus lack free will and are forced to work as uncomplaining slaves for a "zombie master", typically on plantations. It is widely thought that, if such "zombies" existed, they were in fact heavily drugged but still-living humans."
"Undead is a collective name for mythological beings that are deceased yet behave as if alive. Undead may be spiritual, such as ghosts, or corporeal, such as Zombies. Undead are featured in the legends of most cultures and in many works of fiction, especially fantasy and horror fiction."
I hope it helps.

It depend on which kind of zombie you are talking about.
If you are talking about real Voodoun zombies, then you are talking about someone who was been through the ritual of dying and being buried, but their body was revived. They often retain some of their intelligence but their will is broken. They breath and their heart beats.
If you are talking about movie zombies you are actually talking about undead ghouls. They have little or no mental capacity and a ravenous hunger for human flesh. The relentless shambling gate is dangerous enough when one bite can cause death (and re-animation). They become thrice as scary if they have any intelligence or can move quickly.
Vampires are not the same as zombies. Part of what makes them so frightening is that they retain their memories and knowledge from being alive but they are no longer human.

There are undeads. Those are patients in hospitals with minimal or no brain activity and bodies kept alive with machines.
The making of Zombies usually ends up as heavy dosages of narcotics when investigated.

If your "undead" obviously you are alive. When your are "Dead" that's the end of it. No such thing as zombies or vampires for that matter.

They are niether dead or alive. Kind of like Limbo for spirits. Stuck between life and death. As with spirits they are stuck between Earth and "Other Side."
