Okay, so I just bought myself a new hard drive because my old one was getting a lot of bad sectors. But for some reason my mother board does not detect the drive after I started to load windows data from the CD. I've partisioned into 2 drives, formated both of them and started the windows install, but when it rebooted, it will not read the drive, nor even read the CD drive (it will read the CD drive if I have the hard drive d/c and reconnect it after it starts to read the CD drive.

Basically, what is going on, and what the heck do I do to correct it?

Actually my CD drive is the master, I only have one working IDE connection, so my hard drive is Serial ATA.

If its a SATA hard drive then you will need to install the drivers during the installation otherwise the install when rebooted will not work. Assuming you have proper drivers and connectors to support a sata hard drive, you will need to hit f6 to install additional drivers during the installation.

sometimes you have to run a program like DiskWizard before your computer will recognize the drive. Each company has their own versions and do not always provide it with a new drive. Check with the Manufacturers web site and see if there is such a program for your drive to download and install.

If the above solutions dont work (master /slave settings) go into the bios and set your boot order to go off the cd first and then your new hard drive.

Disconnect the old hard drive and plug the new one in the same place as the old one.
