I was speaking to an elderley chap today and he pointed out a van which had the logo ENGLISH - and he was quite happy. He was talking about the state of the country and how he had fought in the war etc., etc., and said he might actually change his name to the above. I do not expect anybody will want to change there name through loyalty to their own family name - however, if it was not a big deal - would you do just that.

I would probably have done so in a second before I was married... My family's awful. But I don't mind my husband's surname. If I felt more of a connection or sense of pride of being a citizen of a country than being a member of my family, it would be a rational choice. How one chooses to call themselves gives one a sense of identity.

You know my last name is of "German Descent" and when I was growing up I got called: Horndog, bullhorn, corndog, honker, you name it they called me it: And to be quite honest I never cared much for my maiden name.... I'm proud of it, and my heritage, but not of some of the bad things the German's did, such as "Hitler" so, when I first got married and later devorced I kept his name, and never went back to my "Maiden-Name" since!! And I've been married three times, now. And still have always kept my husband's names, because I'm not proud of the German side of my blood.. We're also Checoslovakian, irish, English, polish, and so we just call ourselves "Heinz-57s!!" hahahah!!! Because we have so many different nationalities in us!! But as much as I'm not proud too be a "German descent' I could never completely disown my maiden name!! I even use it as one of my email addresses, in hopes of getting highschool friends to email me, seeing my name on there, you know. I mean how many Christy Horn's are out there, not very many!!! I found out that in the early days, the German's used to make things with "Musical instrument's" especially "Horn's' and that's where our name originated from, and its nice knowing it wasn't someone out there blowing a "Horn" to go and kill some more "Jew's" so, I think I'll keep my maiden name!! Smile!!!

My great gandparents did when they came to the USA.
They said it was so they could start fresh in a new country.
It was a different world, so who knows.
People often change their names to make them happy. I have no problem with it at all.

My surname is 12 letters long, and if you are not familiar with it, you'd probably find it very difficult to pronounce. But i wouldn't change it. It's my identity. I like it.

Quite happy with my own name thanks. Also couldn't be bothered to deal with all the hassle it entails. Lol imagine if everyone in England was surnamed English. Talk about confusion reigning....

no, i'm the last male to carry my last name. plus if that wasn't the case, i won't either. why would you want to change to something so that you can blend in or a personal gain? that's a sad reason. nope. i'm proud of my last name.
