A friend of mine spilled a soda on his computer. When they brought it in to be repaired they said the cost would be around 600$. Is that reasonable? How long should it take to be fixed?

I hate to tell you this, but $600 is too much. You can buy yourself a new decent computer with that money. Depending on where the drink spilled on the computer, it still shouldn't cost that much. If they said you had spill it on the motherboard and it ruin everything, you might as well find yourself a new computer instead of having them to replace it. You need to find out what is being repaired and weight the options of repairing or not. As to how long it will take, depends on what is being repaired. If it is only a few hardware parts, it should take more than 2 days. It actually just take 1 to 2 hrs.

This depends on where the drink was exactly spilled if on the tower/desktop itself then yes it is reasonable with cost , but if your drink only hit the keyboard then no it's not reasonable.

What type of computer? Laptop? What did the spilled drink come in contact with? Keyboard?

The cost of the repair will depend on what components were damaged; did they provide an itemized estimate?

for that price, he may want to invest in a new computer!
