Would you build or buy a new computer?

The way I see it both options have their pro's and cons.....

Building:
Pro's: You know exactly what is in your computer and the specification is your choice.
Con's: Price (usually)

Buying:
Pro's:Ready made computers are usually cheaper (think DELL...........on second thoughts don't, I wouldn't touch a DELL with a bargepole, but hey each to their own.)
Cons: Do you know exactly whats inside? Usually NO....unless you invalidate your warrant.

So.....which would you chose?

I go with build. I think it's cheaper. Here's how I figure it.

You pick high quality components. That means it doesn't break down on you on bad times, like when you have a deadline to meet for your job. No time wasted with tech support.

You pick an expandable design. In the future, you might be able to get by with more RAM, or just a better video card. No entire computer (case, PS, etc.) to buy when a clever upgrade will do.

You can organize the internals for proper airflow and cooling. Less wear on computer components. Longer life.

Pick a proper hard drive. It's unbelievable the kind of crappy hard drives manufacturers like to ship. Having a hard drive go out isn't much fun.

I would prefer to build becasue you can then select the best parts and the bios haven't been set by a manufacturer to run a specific way. You can almost be 100% sure that the computer that you've built will be faster than a prebuilt one from a manufacturer. Building takes time and a little more expensive But who really wants added on software that's old and of no use.

Good luck if you would like to build one.

It's easy to build your own and far better you can build to your requirements and you will get a better understanding to how these computers work ,
so think of what specs you want and go to a pc war house for your parts they are cheaper there.
one company to get your parts from is ez computers they have a lot of shops country wide that is if you are in the uk.

I always build my own, that way I only pay for hardware that I want.

If you think you might upgrade your PC later, stay away from DELL, their power supplies don't lead to upgrading nicely.

The only con of building your own is that you have to provide your own tech support and warranty service.

If you like Asus motherboards, configure your own via http://www.meshcomputers.com/

The last one I bought from there would have cost me at least £100 more to build myself.
