Sounds like termites. Carpenter ants usually live in wood thats already damaged. You would see an occasional ant.

A lot of information is available on the web. Use Yahoo or Google to search. You need to find their nest. It is usually in a damp area of your house. By banging on the wall or door frame, you will hear a crinkling noise, like cellophane. This is the sound of the ants moving in response to your banging. The professionals drill 1/8 inch holes about 12 inches apart for several feet either side of the nest and pump dust into the nest. The proper dust will kill them. I use a product called Delta dust (chemical name deltamethrin) and use a bellows type duster available on the internet. Delta dust is waterproof. You also can use Boric acid dust, but if it gets wet it is ineffective

You can also put dust around exterior area but this may not be a good idea if you have small children or pets.

Call an exterminator, it may be termites, they will be able to tell for sure and treat the problem before it gets worse. If you are seeing sawdust you may need to replace some wood, if you can't do that then call on a local contractor before it causes structural damage.

Are you sure it is carpenter ants and not termites? Either way, you have a problem. Call in an exterminator to have your whole house checked for structural damage.

What you can see is usually just a very small part of the problem.

Go to Amazon.com, order a Grammar and Spelling book, read it first, then use it to squash the bugs.
