Other games ends in 2 hours but Cricket takes more than 6 hours and in India lots of people are there who are doing nothing.

If the people love to watch cricket only leaving aside all other sports, then those sports will obviously be neglected at the expense of cricket. Spend some time to watch our national hockey and soccer league matches also, on TV. Then you wouldn't feel the need to ask this question.

Maybe because Circket has been played in India for a very long time. Its enjoyed by everyone, even people that are first time viewrers. Its more like a religion now a days. But despite the interest in cricket in India , modern athletes are starting to explore other sports as well.

It is promoted by the players and the board so much that its like force feeding the population into loving the game. The Indian media is also responsible. Whenever they show their sports segment most of it is about cricket, ignoring other sports such as soccer and hockey. The Indian government also funds most of its sports budget into cricket.

Because there are large followers for the game of cricket and it is a money minting game in India. No other game generate more revenue in India than cricket.

One thing i want to say is that the media is giving so much hype that they want to make money out of it !
If India wins - Media gets money ! If India losses - again media comes into picture - they gather people to criticize - again they make money .
How many people are worried that in this big nation of millions of people we don't even get a single gold medal in Olympics ?
Enjoy cricket ! Don't make this a big deal ! If India wins - no big deal in it ..and if India losses also no big deal !
If above is the attitude then we love the game and not a particular team and we wont criticize individuals for it !

Maybe.... Cricket has been played in our country for a very long time.... when other games were not that important to us compred to cricket...
so the same thing is still going on....... But slowly people are showing interest towards other sports like.. tennis, badminton,etc.
