I am an educator/teacher. Our school is dealing with this issue currently. The new administration approached the parents about the idea of uniforms and they were all for it. We have yet to implement them but in all likelihood, next year the students will be wearing uniforms. Luckily we also changed our school colors this year so the students will be wearing forest green polos rather than bright purple or yellow with their khakis.

I personally think it's a good idea. Our students come from homes at or below the poverty level. Uniforms will be less costly for the parents and will help solve some of our "gang" attitudes and appearances. Not sure if they plan on the teachers wearing uniforms like the kids or not but previously it was mentioned that teachers will just have to maintain a professional appearance and maybe only have to wear the uniform 1 day a week.

I am a teacher and a parent and feel that simple uniforms (ie solid colors) allow the true student to shine ...no competition to have to have the "in" clothes and shoes that sometimes cause those students who can't necessarily afford them feel like less of a person. I also believe that with uniforms all students should have some flexibility - pants vs. skirts for girls - and weather need to be taken into consideration. As a parent it would cut down on the morning hassles when one wants to wear something that isn't clean or appropriate.

I am a student and feel that public schools should not have to where uniforms. Making us where uniforms is like stripping out all the individuality we have left the schools all say you can't where this or you can't have a piercing in a place or can't dye your hair a certain color. It's our body we can do what we want with it the schools can't control what we do it's our choice.Telling us to wear uniforms will be like taking the last part of our individuality .

At my school everyone is in navy, khaki, or white..... and no logos allowed. That took care of gang members wearing their colors, and it evened the playing field. Students were no longer looked down on because they didn't have designer clothes or the latest Hot Topic outfit. Also, there went the Emos in all black everything although they still wear the heavy black eyeliner. The jocks no longer wore questionable T-shirts. By going to uniform, we were able to break up these groups and solidify. To keep the kids happy, we have Free Dress Friday once a month.

No way! If I had to wear uniforms, I'll burn down the school for making their students for wearing such plain and uncomfortable clothing. Maybe just for special occasions, such as school performances, but other than that, no. You wear one piece of clothing for the whole school year, and I'm sure parents will appreciate their kids not spending so much money on clothing, but they'll probably get tire of them complaining and whining about it.

Burn uniforms!
