I have $20 worth of gift cards for Houlihan's, yet the closest location is 30 miles away. I also have $75 worth of gift cards for Outback Steakhouse, but the closest location is 10 miles away. I hate to see almost $100 gone to waste.

Well the Outback Steakhouse ones I would use...it is only 10 miles...take a few friends out for a treat sometime! The Houlihans is only 30 miles away, where I live you need to go that far to get any good food. So I would say make it a special night...if not put it on Ebay or something!

EBAY EBAY EBAY!!! If you are not familiar with EBAY, check out the site and learn how you can sell things. Something that you don't want or need could be just what someone else has been looking for! I just went on EBAY's site and saw that 19 people are bidding on a $75 Outback Steakhouse gift certificate. The bidding is up to $74.89. That means that the person selling that gift card is gauranteed at least $74.89 in cold hard cash. You do have to pay a percentage of your profit to EBAY, but it's a really small percentage so you would still make out really well. Then you could take your earnings and buy something that you can really enjoy! It sure beats letting $95 go to waste!

Well, give the Houlihan's certificates to someone who lives closer to the place. I don't understand WHY you can't drive 10 miles to the Outback Steakhouse...I drive 13 miles to work every day. What's the problem?

Can you swap them with someone? Say they have a $20 card for a place close to you, maybe you could swap. Or maybe a relative would pick up a card for a place near to you then swap for the Outback card or whatever. And, wow, you must not live in a rural area if 10 miles is too far to go! We can't even get out of the woods at the ten mile marker! Good luck!

There's a wonderful website that I love called cardavenue.com where you can swap gift cards that you don't want for gift cards that you do want. It works for all kinds of gift cards, not just restaurants. If you don't swap, you can also auction or sell off your gift cards on there as well. There is a very minimal fee for making a trade, but rather than holding on to a useless gift card, I'd highly recommend it. In the event that a gift card that you want is of a different denomination than the one you have, the site even gives you the option to pay the difference via paypal so that it's an even trade. Good luck.

What i would do is call up a girlfriend and see if she wanted to have a girls night out. that way you can plan on travel time to and from the restaurants. question: do you live in a large city where a distance of 30 miles takes a long time? i live in a really rural area where alot of destinations are anywhere from 10-30 miles. so i don't really understand the dilemma.

See if you can swap with any friends for a restaurant that is closer.

You also might want to consider throwing a party for some of your friends at a restaurant paid for with those cards. That makes the trip to the restaurant more of an expedition rather than a drudge trip so you won't mind the distance.

btw those are not terrible distances to go for a nice meal. Keep the cards in your car and if you are heading in that direction, treat yourself to a meal or bring home takeout from there.

FIrst of 10 miles really isn't that far to go. I guess if you don't want to go 10 miles, you must not have a car. You could always sell them to a friend or regift them. I wouldn't mind getting some gift cards to restaurants.

you consider 30 miles and 10 miles a long way to go to get free food? I would drive further than that. Perhaps you can give them as gifts

Whenever I have gift cards that I can't or don't use, I use them as gifts for other people. Just place it in a card, write something nice, and send or give it to someone you think would really like it. Many times, the people I give them to use them right away and thank.
Also, I have donated them to different places that help people. My church works with a center for women with different issues and we have given many to them and they love it.
