We are thinking of going to London for about 3 days this Spring, but are saving money for a bigger trip this Summer around Europe. What's a good, inexpesive hotel in London?

if you don't mind sharing a room with other people, try a hostel. basically you only rent the bed. but if you are in a group and can share the cost of a room, it might end up being cheaper per night for a hotel room. there are lots of them in london.

check out these links if you are interested in a hostel

Even very expensive hotels in London are frequently pretty crappy.

The best way to stay cheap is to book with one of the major budget chains (eg Travelodge) and stay well outside the centre but near the tube.

The tube runs until about midnight, and you can get day passes (or buy an Oyster card). If you plan to stay out late make sure that your hotel is near a night bus.

Some Travelodges are actually quite central eg Kings Cross. You could also try Premier Travel Inn - they have a hotel opposite the Houses of Parliament.

Expect to pay less if you book early and the further out you stay. My brother stayed near Wimbledon recently for £26 per room.

I stayed in Paddington at the Hyde Park Radnor (www.hydeparkradnor.com) and loved it--it's not that expensive (by London standards) and the location is central to everything. The rooms are small compared to the US but the bathrooms have all been redone which is a huge perk. Plus they serve you breakfast! Use Tripadvisor.com to check out people's reviews of various hotels.....I got stuck at a disgusting one once trying to save a little money and it was SO not worth it. Yuck.

That's a big question. Let me try and break it down.

The best areas are close to the action ie the West End. Here's a selection of locations with hotels:

Victoria:http://www.cheaperthanhotels.co.uk/United-Kingdom/London/Victoria/ [ near tube , airport links , Buckingham Palace and Hyde Park - 15 mins walk ]

Kensington:http://www.cheaperthanhotels.co.uk/United-Kingdom/London/Kensington/ [ West End - near shopping ]

Earls Court:http://www.cheaperthanhotels.co.uk/United-Kingdom/London/Earls-Court/ [ Cheap area - not very attractive ]

Piccadilly:http://www.cheaperthanhotels.co.uk/United-Kingdom/London/Piccadilly/ [ Central to Theatres ]

Bloomsbury:http://www.cheaperthanhotels.co.uk/United-Kingdom/London/Bloomsbury/

Overall London Directory of Hotels:http://www.cheaperthanhotels.co.uk/United-Kingdom/London/

You can use the sort tool to arrange by price, location, star rating last minute or year round. For peak season i suggest booking in advance as the good offers go quick

Hope this helps - please let me know how you go and if you find anything that .suits in this directory.

Good luck.
