We all learn our social skills from our friends and abandoning someone completely can be a horrible blow to one's self-esteem. We are all so very fragile creatures.
I would suggest keeping the kid gloves on, and trying to shape her into being a better friend. We are like clay, we need molding and bending in the right direction.
If she does something annoying say something like "Well, nobody does stuff like that anymore, why don't we do ____ instead" If she's calling too often, tell her you have homework to do, or that you're running low on cell minutes. If she's obsessing about a boy or something, tell her something like "You know, you shouldnt put all your eggs in one basket, what about _______ he's cute"
Whatever it is, people are fragile and if you are the only friend she has you could mean the world to her. That's a very powerful position and it's very easy to mold them. Please be careful.

maybe she feels like the only way people will like her is if she is upbeat, always happy and entertaining. how would you feel in her shoes? maybe she doesnt get alot of positive attention at home. I think you would do her a big favor and start showing that she is important by telling her really really nice, what you think.. explain that this is not easy to discuss, but as a friend this is what you see.. then help her out making new friends....it might make her life and attitude alot better!!

I have the same problem- dont let her get in your way of popularity, Itll just make is worse. Just make a new friend that you like and start getting close and dont tell your friend you dislike her show her trust me if no one wants to be her friend dont let her have to depend on you- if you go away then shell learn what it takes to be a good friend!!

I would tell your friend what exactly annoys you. I would also tell her that other people feel this way. Maybe she should have the opportunity to find new friends who do not thing she is annoying.
