Check out schools near your home that have online classes and you're trying to go for state and national accreditation.

National or Regional Accreditation are very important but also check out what other accreditations each schools have and by other accreditations I mean professional or organizational accreditations.

I was looking at each schools websites and one thing I noticed was that Capella University has some accreditations that the other two do not have.

Capella's Master's degree in HS has a CACREP accreditation. I could find no other online school claiming that fact. Capella also has Society for Human Resources Managers accreditation and based on what I found online it was the only online school to have these accreditations which are difficult to get.

This is a very good questions. While online education is relatively knew compared to the traditional way of getting your post-secondary education it is now being accepted much more than it was ten years ago. Like any new technology online education is met with speculation until it becomes the norm, which it has.

Between the three schools I would have to say that Capella University will be your best choice. It is known for its quality, excellent instruction, and ability to deliver a solid degree that is recognized by employers.

The University of Phoenix and AIU (American Intercontinental University) have both come under some scrutiny by the US Depatment of Education and/or their accrediting body.

AIU was placed on accreditation in December 2005 for one year by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools because of concerns about compliance with broad standards, including integrity of academic records and accuracy in admissions and recruiting practices. That probationary period was extended by one year in December 2006 after SACS decided that the University had not yet proved itself.

The University of Phoenix is had even more problems than AIU. They have been fined by the Department of Education and the Department of Labor for their recruitment practices and their treatment of employees. U of P actually paid a $9.8 million dollar fine for violating the Higher Learning Act of 1965.

Capella University has a great reputation, has never been fined or placed on accreditation probation, and is known for its quality.
