i've just heard of them yesterday. my brother says they're really cute. has anyone had one before? whats their temper like?

Had a black bear hamster and it was the cutest thing ever!
The one thing I'd caution against, is check their temperment. Mine, was absolutely adorable, but not one that ever wanted to be held and would get quite "bitey" when anyone would try to hold her. We ended up having to hold her with gardening gloves on when we needed to change her cage etc. She was a cutie though and lots of fun to watch. We absolutely loved her! For kids....just remember they are nocturnal pets, so playing with them in the day can be an issue. If you get one, hold it in the store, pet it, see if you can gage the temperment! I had a panda bear hamster (he just died recently) and he was very sweet and cute. They are actually banded Syrian hamsters. They're black with a white band around their middle.

MY SON HAD ONE AND HE WAS SOOOOO CUTE, THEY LOOK LIKE A HAMSTER BUT THEY ARE MORE FLUFFIER AND DO LOOK LOT LIKE A LITTLE BEAR, HE HELD HIS ALL THE TIME AND IT WAS VERY GOOD NATURED
