Most black people seem to be in the same clique, The hip hop/urban one. There are a few black nerds, A LOT of black jocks, basketball/football.
As a black person, I just have to say that most black people have similar mentalities regardless of were we live in the country.

Kids form cliques. It has nothing to do with being "white." Why do kids form cliques? To fit in, to belong, to find out who they are. They might go through a few groups before they find where they belong. There are the kids that never fit, but they seem to gravitate towards each other, thereby forming their own cliques (the loner's clique). Life works that way. You may say, I wasn't in a clique, I just hung out with a couple of good friends, well guess what? That was your clique.

I think it mainly has to do with comfort zones, people tend to gravitate toward other people with similar interests, social and economical backgrounds, religious beliefs, etc.
It’s an easier transition into school, college and workplace of both the majority and the minority. Pertaining to a setting of kids, I can see where wealthy students form cliques, international students form cliques, white students form cliques, minority students form cliques, jocks form cliques, chess club forms a clique, etc. I don't believe this to be a phenomena which is specifically limited to white kids.

White kids? Is your vision really that limited? This is HUMAN behavior you're describing. Not caucasian behavior or even adolescent behavior. Humans are tribal. We form into groups. It's a primitive, ancient response. I hope this answers your question.

It makes them feel a little more secure in having a group. Then they think they know where they fit in and who their friends should and shouldn't be. I personally think it would be better if there weren't groups, but we really can't do anything about that.

Black kids, asian kids, hispanic kids, they all form cliques in pretty much the same ways.

People, both adults and teenagers tend to surround themselves with people who have similar interests and behaviors. I'm sure they do not lable themselves with these terms, they are thrust upon them by society.
