That is not true about the amniotic sack. Some identicals are in the same sack and this is more dangerous and some are not. They can tell sometimes however by the placenta and sometimes they cannot tell until after you give birth or not at all and you will have to do a DNA test to find out for sure. FYI the babies can be the same sex and be fraternal also for the person who said wait to see if they are the same sex.

Well they will look first at the genders of the babies. If they are both the same gender then they will look if the children are sharing a placenta or have one each. In the case they have the same placenta, the odds of identical twins are fairly high. If they have seperate placentas, they are more than likely fraternal twins, but they still may look very similar. My nephews are fraternal twins and its pretty hard to tell them apart until you hear them speak lol.

I have identical twins and they told me when i found out i was having twins that they were identical but i was 18 wks before if found out, but identical twins share a placenta and can either be in their own sac or share one, fraternal twins have their own placenta. fraternal twins run in families on the mothers side, and identical twins are kind of a fluke thing that happens.

Well were they in the same sac or separate ones at the sonogram? The same sac would mean identical, separate would mean fraternal.

i would think that when she gets further along(possibly even now?) then an ultrasound could tell. identical twins share an amniotic sac where non-identical have their own amniotic sacs.

the doctor can tell her at her first ultrasond. If the babies share the same amniotic sac they are identical, if they each have their own they are fraternal.
