I've always had irregular periods. I went on the pill for two years after I got married. I went off in December and I didn't get my period until after I went to the doctor and he prescribed progesterone. My husband and I are trying to conceive and I now wish that I wouldn't have gone on the pill because it really does just mess up your hormones.

I now have a wonderful doctor whom I completely trust. He ran blood tests and my LH levels are somewhat high (due to not ovulating). He thinks I may have PCOS...although i have no other symptoms besides the irregular periods. Has your doctor run bloodtests? There is a reason why you are irregular and a doctor should be able to help fix the problem...birth control will only regulate them while you are on it. BC also prevents ovulation...which is exactly the opposite of what you need to conceive=)!

My doctor is going to have me try Medformin which is actually a diabetic med....but it's linked to helping regulate ovulation. If this doesn't work on it's own he will prescribe this along with clomid. Clomid will work wonders to induce ovulation...but for me clomid wouldn't prevent a miscarriage alone.

I hope this helps! Good luck and hope you have a new little one soon!

I've actually heard that the pill will throw off your cycle once you get off of them. It may also take a while before your body gets regulated & your able to ovulate and regulate your period. It does regulate your period because the hormone levels in the pill let you know exactly when you will have your menses but no ovulation occurs while you're on the pill. So, you can not get pregnant while on it.
I've always been irregular. I had been on the pill from ages 15-28. It took me a very long time (about 2 years) to have a regulated cycle once I came off of them.
BUT your doctor must know your history and knows whats best for you. I hope that it works for you. Good luck!

Being on the pill does help regulate your periods if that is the problem you are having, but if you are trying to conceive, then you really shouldn't be on the pill. It might take longer for you to try to conceive once you get off it.
