Nixon wasn't hated as much as Bush is right now. I was 10 years old then., Nixon resigned in shame, but he did do it. I think in Nixon's own mind he was a American.

Both Lincoln and Nixon were hated, showing that a measure of a president's greatness is not his popularity. Many people hate Bush right now, but they are arguably airheads and academic elitists (maybe the same thing). Bush MAY be viewed by history as a great president. Or not.
Incidentally. Nixon's approval rating in Gallup polls "statistically" fell lower than Bush's. Some Bush haters are ill-informed (or just propagandizing).

Oh yeah...Lincoln was so hated that half the country left the Union in protest when he was elected.
And Clinton was certainly reviled by my conservative friends for his 8 years.
Hoover, Coolidge, Wilson, FDR, Kennedy --- all of these guys were disliked by significant numbers of Americans.
And Bush is not the first president to lead us into a questionable war. The War with Mexico and the Spanish American War and of course Vietnam all are in pretty much the same category.

All presidents are hated. Clinton was despised when he was in office. It wasn't until he left that people talked good about him. When Bush leaves people will start talking about how great a guy he was, how the Katrina criticism was un warranted and how much of a tool the guy who gets elected next is. Just the way politics works.

Nison was hated as mcuh because he lied to the people, hid money in the white house safe, taped all conversations in the white hosue withou telling pepl,e wire tapped the phones of newsmen and other journalist; had his entire chief advisors charged with felonies in watergate break in
but he had enough sense to quit the office he quit the presidency,k bush is hated longer than Nixon but Nixon had as much if not more hate but it did not last as long since he had enough brains to quit the office

Nixon, Johnson, and Truman had very low approval ratings.
But most likely Nixon was hated as much as Bush.
