Depends on whether they are tried as an adult or not. Counterfeiting is a Federal Crime. I'd guess you'd be serving time with the BIG boys.

IF you should end up in a juvenile facility for a Federal Crime, I would guess you'll be there until you are 21.

On the moral issue...if this "teenager's" only worry is how much time he will serve when caught (and he WILL be caught), then there is a REAL problem with his ethical and moral compass.

That is a federal crime. I would be surprised if the teen was not tried as an adult and put in jail. If you did juvenile time it would be at least until 18, maybe a combination of juvenile to prison, getting out at 21.

Keep in mind all machinery used to make funny money is forfeited before any court action (and you never get it back).

Just 6 months in a fed for possession of conterfeit money.
Four years in a fed for trying to pass
Five years in a fed for manufacture of funny money

If you used a scanner or software like Photoshop, in the image will be the serial number of that scanner and the software.

Checks seem to be the way to go. Police don't have time to run down bad checks. The link shows one individual busted for the 54th time after passing $180,000 gets 41 months. That works out to $4390.25 a month. Not bad.

If it is in Juvenile Prison it may be up to 6 months. And if it is Community Service up to 3 months.

Age does not matter to the Feds.

Most likely you would get jailed until you turned 18.
