I am wondering if i can put non-ecc ram in a dual socket 940 motherboard. Ecc registered ram is a fair bit more expensive than non-ecc, and i want to know if the motheboard would work with non-ecc.

The board i am looking at is MSI's

and several other ones.

Also, is it worth the extra cost to get the Ecc registered ram?
Ecc registered ram is supposed to give "Increased reliability"
What does that mean in the real world, what benefits would i see from it?

Yes you can.
I would not invest in it unless it was for a server.
Reliability so far as generating fewer memory read/write errors.

Not an issue for a home PC....total overkill (in my opinion).
