I have an 80 gal freshwater aquarium with a Top Fin 30 and a Top Fin 60 filter. I have four large goldfish and one pleco. I've had the tank since Sept and never had an overflow problem but all of the sudden, it started to overflow. I changed to the Top Fin Bio filters to see if that would help and it didn't. I've taken the pump and filters apart and cleaned them. The cartridges are all clean as well. I don't know what to do. Please help!!! Thanks!

Make sure the dial on top of the suction tube isn't leaking, sometimes the o-ring in them can come loose and allow water to come out the top of the pipe.

If that's not it there has to be some sort of obstruction in the filter. ??? did you get preassembled filter cartridges, or the put together kind??? If you put them together yourself did you put to much carbon in them? this can cause an overflow.

Also did you rinse out the bio-foam that go's in front of the filter (if your filters came with it).

Finally make sure that the suction tube is inserted all the way, if you leave it a little off it will allow the water to back up and overflow instead of going to the filter chamber.

Good luck

Check to see that the filter is at least level, if not tilted slightly towards the tank. Often if they are tilted away from the tank they will overflow over the back. This can happen if any leveling tab or adjustment loosens up.

With a tank that size you should really be operating a canister filter. Nevertheless, I would reccomend that you change the impellers in the filters, they are most likely worn. Also a complete cleaning of the mechanism is probably overdue
