ok, I have a 1999 SL2 saturn... the other night, the horn came on, and wouldn't shut off, so my neighbor came over, and we tried to get it to stop.. the car started, and it still wouldn't go off.. so we pulled the fuse out.. and still on ! so, we finally ended up pulling the entire battery out to make the dang horn shut off.. and it did.. so when my fiancee came home, he put the battery back in, and the car won't start now...at all. We bought a NEW battery, and it still won't start... the garage can't tell what's wrong, they tried hooking it up to a "computer" but the computer needed power from the car to "read" and since the car won't turn over, or start , there's no power.... anyideas on what the heck happened, or what it could be?? the car is in REALLY good shape, I use it to commute to work, so I don't want to junk it.. but is it saveable ???? any ideas????

It isn't the security sytem, we've gone that route... there is NO power anywhere in the car.. but we did try re-setting the alarm system- per Saturn's instructions.. and it didn't work.. so saturn said that cannot be the issue.. what about the car's computer?? if that went up.. is it salvageable? or could any other wiring cause this??

Does your Saturn have Remote Keyless Entry? If so, you may have triggered the "alarm" button. Even if your remote only has three buttons, if you take it apart, you'll see that there are actually four switches on the inside of the remote. That missing button is the alarm button, somehow it probably got triggered. You'll need to reset your alarm system if this is the case.

In the mean time, there is a way to start you car... I don't remember the exact procedure (I believe it's in the Owner's Manual). It involves letting the alarm sound with the key in the igntion for a certain duration of time, then it will allow you to star the car.

Another method you might try is to use your RKE Remote and Hold down the Lock and Unlock button at the same time for about 5-10 seconds, it may reset the system. I'll see if I can find the instructions on starting the car with the alarm active.

UPDATE:
This is according to my manual (which "should" be the same between model years 1996 to 1999):

"If your Saturn has the starter disable feature, the starter will be disabled when the Saturn Security System is armed. the starter will work again when the Saturn Security System is disarmed. If your transmitter has been lost or damaged and the Saturn Security System has been armed, follow the steps bellow:

- Use your key to open the door. The alarm will sound for about two minutes.

- After the alarm stops, turn your ignition to "RUN".
- Remove your key from the ignition.
- After about 30 minutes you will be able to start your vehicle.

Good luck.

UPDATE #3. There is no power at ALL now? You might want to see if you can power the electronics through the cigarette lighter port. You may even be able to start it from there. If so, you may have fried something seriously when you removed the battery initially. I would recommend you buy one of those chargers/starters that does have the cigarette lighter adapter. They come in handy.

Good luck again...
