That is quite an assignment, since a 150 page manuscript, double spaced in Times New Roman 12 pt. font is about 50,000 words! Perhaps the tutor is not so much looking for a polished product, as they are looking for a commitment to the work that it takes to produce a book.

If you read a lot, or have a preference for a certain kind of book, try and combine that with something that you are familiar with. For example, if you play a lot of video games, and are a mystery fan, perhaps you could develop a plot where someone plays a certain game in an online forum. Then gradually he realizes that events in the game, are coming true, because he reads them in the paper. So he decides to try and capture the person behind the game before he can kill/rob/ etc again.

Start with that kind of base, and then plot out your book by making a list of characters and high points in the story. It is easier to write, once you "know" your characters and story. You can create their appearance, give them quirks, and a lot of other details that will then come in handy when you are writing a scene. And because you already know what direction your story will go in, as you write it will be like connecting the dots, and you move from one high point to the next.

When you're stuck on any given point like how to get a character from one place to another, or how to make a scene more realistic, think back to recent books you have read and how their authors handled things, and for realism, think about what you would do in that case, such as how and what a person does in a restaurant scene.

I don't think your tutor expects the next best seller. But they will want to see how much effort you expend in learning how books are written and trying to reproduce that in your own work.

For reference books, particularly on grammar, I recommend "Eats, Shoots, and Leaves", which is not only very amusing, but excellent in explaining how not to do things the wrong way.

Good luck!

Yes Dear,
First of all you have to force yourself to be still. Sometimes a writer isn't easily inspired.
Then, once your idea for a book comes to you, you take your first step which is your "outline" This is a hen scratching of your beginning, middle and end of the book. You know, brainstorming . Don't worry once you start with the beginning the rest will flow. Just don't overwhelm yourself looking too far ahead.
Then if you have more questions don't be afraid to talk to your tutor about it, thats what a tutor is there for! Your Tutor does not get paid to *judge* you.
Oh Yeah, and you need a dictionary and a thesaurus. Also if you are having trouble with your grammer, it would serve you well to find a book such as "The essentials of grammer" ask your tutor or your teacher how to find such a book they will be very impressed! ;)

You haven't stated what type of book, i.e. fiction, factual, historical etc., so I'll assume it's fiction. Best approach is "write what you know". That means the things that most interest you, not your own experience. If you love Harry Potter then do a tale of good v evil: if crime, then do an Inspector Morse/Hannibal Lecter.
Maybe writing about someone who can't write would help.
All the best with it.
