Both trilogy's are great and each one share the distinction of having sequels which are better than the first. Star Wars does slightly better in the third film than Godfather. But which film has the overall stronger impact? Which film would you chose if you had only one choice?

Star Wars although both were very popular, how many people stood in line for 3 months to see the godfather.

The Godfather will probably win this one. Don't get me wrong, I think Star Wars is a great film. But Star Wars has gotten so commercialized with the prequels and the toys and the tee-shirts and all. The Godfather was one of the first modern crime films... which opened the door to so many others, including GoodFellas, Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, The Usual Suspects...
But you're right when you say Godfather III was weak. Coppola's daughter may be a great screenwriter and director but she sure does suck as an actress!!!

I'm going to have to go with Star Wars. don't get me wrong The Godfather was a great movie but Star Wars revolutionized movie making. The Godfather was sweet but it didn't really change how movies are made. Star Wars is the earliest movie that i have seen with sweet special effects that even gives modern day movies a run for their money.

well, godfather was tight ya know, but then star wars had the force, special effects and the writer, George Lucas. Godfather was really gangster, and I like gangster, but I'm a Star Wars fan by heart, so it would be star wars in the long run

Umm... Star War has a grand total of six movies... Are you referring to episodes 1-3, or the original 4-6?
In any case Star Wars has touched multiple generations, (from 1977 - Present). Has raked in millions of dollars, revolutionized the movie industry, (example sound and graphics). You see Star Wars memorabilia everywhere you go, and is spoofed in so many movies.
Star Wars wins hands down... Because all they have to do is use the force on the "Godfather".

Star wars can't touch The Godfather. The Godfather did not need any special effects to be good it just needed human nature, passion and greed and family dynamics and so much more.
