When you were growing up/childhood and young adult years???? Did you feel ashamed? Do you still carry the hurt deep down inside? How did you overcome all the teasing and taunting? Did the teasing and taunting make you stronger, by resisting to verbal abuse?

It made me a lot stronger...but the scars are still deeply buried.

I was very lucky that I never got bullied at school and never once got called any gay names. Mind you I was the tallest boy in school, so I guess that could have something to do with it.
Ashamed is not the word I would use, but for years I did feel that I’d let my family down. I also felt that I was an embarrassment to everyone and that’s why I spent all my teenage years/early 20’s wishing I was dead. I don’t think that's made me a stronger person, but it has made me more compassionate. Then you get the ones on this site who say “being gay is a choice”, they’re in for a few shocks when they get to the other side.

I wasn't big growing up, but I had 3 older brothers all very large for their age. Smallest is 6'4" 240.
But by having big brothers, I was always protected, unfortunately by being the youngest I had to wrestle with these gorillas all the time too. So, I could defend myself pretty much when I needed to.
