I moved here from England about 18 months ago, to Texas.
I love it here, the main difference being that things are a lot more predictable and streamlined here. Petrol (gasoline) is insanely cheap, and electrical goods are about half the price as compared to England.
The most annoying thing about America is that junk food is so much cheaper than cooking a well-balanced meal yourself.

If you are moving to Scranton, PA I would suggest you start watching a TV show called "The Office" http://www.nbc.com/The_Office/ which is suppose to be filmed in Scranton. Obviously not a realistic view of the place but you will get from time to time great references to the local (and a good laugh or two).
Good Luck!!!

Not exactly sure about Scanton and a lot depends on where you're coming from.
We drive differently from a lot of the rest of the world. You get tickets for going 40 in a 35 zone. You get tickets for crossing the street between lights in a lot of places.
You have to show ID to buy beer, wine and some videos.
It's nice in the daytime but you better know what you're doing at night. I wouldn't walk the streets in most areas.
Americans can tend to be a bit zenophobic and even hermit like.
It's a microwave, push button, remote control, GPS oriented society.
The family unit is not as strong as in other nations.
TV and radio is radically different. More commercialized. Almost exclusively Americanized, except for those Canadians, because you can't tell them from Americans!
Food is almost exclusively fast, burger and pizzaised, unless you microwave.
On the upside you have the freedom to become anything, all it takes is work and lucky breaks.

You will like it. The people are friendly. Many are also kind and generous. There are a few very poor people and a few very rich people; and it is a very big place.
Young people will adopt you immediately, and two weeks later, most will have forgotten your name. But good friends are waiting to meet you and will value you in their community.
Be prepared to burn a lot of energy when you first arrive getting involved with the culture, then settle in and build your life and routines and follow your dreams. You will always hold affection for the home you have known, but America is worth the trip.
