Should the international community (UN, US, etc.) have done more to stop the atrocities in Rwanda?

Why do you think that the international community failed to respond with enough force in order to prevent the genocide of 1994? If you've seen the movie, Hotel Rwanda, how did you feel after watching it. All your answers are very much appreciated. Thank you.

It is doubtful that any response would have changed the outcome. Africa has suffered greatly since the colonial period ended, from actions taken by the colonial powers in their centuries of occupation. More Euro-American intervention wouldn't permanently fix the problems. These cataclysms always need to ultimately be resolved by those who are involved. It is possible that other African countries may have been able to offer assistance in seeking peaceful compromise between the two ethnic groups, but even that seems unlikely.

Every time the US steps into a situation like that, we are considered a big bully, trouble maker, sticking our nose in things that don't concern us. If we don't step in then we allowed the situation to continue. Let Africa and it's neighbors take care of Africa.

The UN is incompetent.

Yes. Sometimes I think we get our priorities wrong. The whole world should have went in there and stopped the genocide.

You can ask the same question about, what China has done to Tibet, the on going polital strife in Africa, Ida Min (Sp?) and what he did to his country... and the answer is NO.

The UN hasn't done anything productive in a long time.
The US is too busy doing whatever they want.

In short, no one cares.
