A degree in Theatre arts opens a lot of doors to you actually. Anyone trying to fill a position that requires a substantial amount of contact with the general public will want someone they know can handle an audience. Many large business firms are looking for intelligent employees with great presentational skills to give presentations to clients and boards. The options are limitless. If you aim to stay in the theatre, there are countless jobs available with regional companies all over the country and around the world. It can be more difficult to break into these companies unless you are content starting toward the bottom and working your way up. They are looking for people with professional experience. With a theatre degree you have many options, now you need to figure out what you want and go for it. Best luck to you.

It can get you a few bucks more as a Secretary/Admin than you would have gotten otherwise

SOmetimes just having ANY kind of degree helps you get reasonable work. Not always though.

If you enjoy theater and want to become a secretary anyway, then go for it. You get 4 years of trying at what you like.

Other than that, its pretty much useless.

Oh yeah, sometimes it feels good just to have a degree, to be snooty at dinner or whatever and not feel left out.

You can do any job.

If you think about it, there are VERY few undergraduate majors that more or less GUARANTEE employment in a specific field. If you're a history major, you're not necessarily going to become a historian. If you're a math major, you probably won't make your living as a mathematician.

Theatre majors learn exceptional COMMUNICATION skills, and should therefore find themselves very much at ease in job interview situations.

My friend teaches classes at the children's theater in our town. She loves it and gets to work kids from 6-18. She has also been asked to direct productions. It's a good steady income and she is VERY happy.
