My opinion: Finally someone is smart enough to snub a member of the Bush family! I also don't agree with honorary degrees. I feel to get a degree you should attend the place, do well, and earn the degree. Not get an honorary one because you donated a buttload of money to the institution,

It depends. I wouldn't have a problem with Einstein getting an honorary physics degree, even if he did not earn it from THAT university. Honorary degrees are OK when the person has done a quality and quantity of work that is equal to what would be required to get a degree but could not go to college for whatever reason (poverty, distance, discrimination, etc).

Whether or not you agree with honorary degrees is not a factor in the equation. Also not in the equation is a snub based on who you are related to.I'm sure you have more than one relative you'd like to distance yourself from. You also imply that he donated buttloads of money the the school, erroneously.
Now onto your question.I think this is nothing more than partisan politics at it's worst.During his years as governor of Florida, the University of Florida benefitted from his administration's policies and that should be the overriding factor in this decision. An honorary degree is thanks and is recognizing the contributions that have been made through your efforts.I think that the school will honor him at a later date.

Really says something about what they think of the prez's brother! Yes, honorary degrees are like a kick in the teeth for those who did it the hard way!

I think it's petty of UF to do that. I think UF needs to focus on their own problems first before they start playing politics. Class sizes are out of control in UF and students are treated like cattle and UF is the least racially diverse college in Florida both student body-wise and faculty-wise. It only recently has gotten better in the past couple of years but they still lag far behind the other colleges in Florida.

They are having huge problems with their professors from professors showing up drunk to class to the College of Liberal Arts going bankrupt.

I totally agree about honorary degrees: they cheapen the work of the people who've actually earned one.

I agree with it totally. I didn't know it was happening but I'm all for it. Jeb did nothing but screw the US over big time by stealing votes back in 2000.

I think Jeb Bush's elementary school should revoke his kindergarten diploma.

They shouldn't honor that crook (stolen election of 2000).
