Hi Lawrence,
No, your TV isn't too old. If your TV works it should work with TiVo.
Check all your connections. The TV cable or antenna lead goes to the input on TiVo then the output of the TiVo goes to the input on the TV. Don't forget to set the TiVo for channel 3 or 4 and use that channel on your TV.

How is it connected? If you've got the signal running through 5 different things in between the Tivo and the TV just to make the connections work, your gonna have problems. As long a you have a good RF cable(not a cheapy from radioshack or walmart, those push on jumper cables are the worst), or RCA cables, or good component cables(your TV being 16 years old probably only has a antenna input) running from the back of the TIVO to the TV and you have your TV set on the right input(video1,comp1,etc. ch 3 if on Antenna or RF input, possibly RCA inputs) then you should be getting a good picture assuming that your cable/sat signal is fine, connections are hand tight and you haven't dropped the Tivo in the process. If the TV was working fine before you hooked up the TIVO, then its either the TIVO itself or the connections.

Yea, it probably getting a little old. Normally snowy lines are noise from different sources. Could be in the TV itself, the connectors dirty, or it may be getting some reception from a TV Station. I would say get a new one if you can. If, you can use something small, sometimes you can find a new for less than $100. It may be some off the wall brand name, but, will do the job.
It not sure what connectors it have. But, if you using those like stereo plugs you may take a Q-Tip with a little rubbing alcohol and clean the inside of the connector, may need to remove a little of the cotton to get it inside. Also, try connecting directly to the old Antenna Screws. I think Radio Shack have an adapter for this.

First you have to determine how tivo is connected to the tv. Are you using a coax cable? Then make sure it's connected to tv set out or out to tv then connected to vhf 2-13 on tv. Make sure tv is on ch 3 or 4. If using yellow, red & white cables then tv has to be set on it's video input usually by selecting tv/video, input, going below ch 2, aux. If none of this helps then probably something is failing and its a process of elimination to determine which unit or device has the problem.

It seems more likely that the adaptor is to old and is just gone bad.
(By adaptor I mean the red, yellow and white thing on the back.)
So basically, your TV is getting some connection, but it is only good enough to get those lines.
I have a TV that is around 10 years ago, and the connection is bad... I would get a new TV is general. I have another TV that is 8 yrs old and have find seeing things on the TV is very hard.
If you don't want a new TV, take your TV to a repair shop and they should be able to put a new adaptor in.
