Yes, some can and others don't.

I have a game called brain age, it does improve your 'smartness' in some ways. They have a program in it for calculations, since I started it my multiplication and math skills have greatly improved where they used to be weak. Theres also other programs help to improve other aspects of your brain, such as reading out loud. This series of games and some other that are specially designed to improve your knowledge (leapster) do.

Theres also games that can improve your reaction as well and a new study found that games improve your eyesight. However, with everything, in moderation it has great affects, but if you overdo it you can do more harm than good.

Is a Yes or No Question depends on the games that a person is playing. Roll Playing and Puzzle Games are one of the games that get people to think and solve problems. Even board games like Checkers or chess. The studies shows that when people playing games, it trigger some part of your brains that we never really used. It make you think and tries to solve whatever the puzzle is in the game or trick by fooling other the players by testing their own mental and reaction skill also to their opponents.

try playing Mahhjhong,text twist,bookworm or..
just forget that
try playing the games loaded on your system
like solitaire,hearts,minesweeper etc..
then you will really appreciate the fact that

i think crossword puzzles kick your brain into the thinking mode.you learn new things with some of the answers.i think they tell people with alzhiemers to do crosswords because it keeps there brain active
