to stop false accusations of rape and abuse, which in turn rape and demean girls who actually have been raped/abused or at least assaulted, like my sister ? The numbers of false accusations are so staggering high in some countries and states that actual victims are met with misstrust and prejudice by the authorities.

Appreciate your input MSW but America has some of the highest imprisioment rates and times in a democratic country and it does not seem to do a good service to lower crim rates.

DEIDRE O My Source was an articel in a respectabel paper http://www.ksta.de/index.shtml it featured an articel of how 95% of accusations turned out to be false, that the police is p*ssed off big time about it and they also wrote about what it means for actual victims.

First off I do not have to proove squat to you. If I were to discuss why the earth is round I would have not to bother it is round, if you believe it is flat it is up to you to educate yourself about it.

The numbers differ widely that might be because they cover 2 different areas. 45% is still high enough to recognize false rape accusations as a real problem for the victims of false rape accusations and for the victims of actual rape.
To conclude I provided 2 sources. You just chosed not to believe them because they do not make you feel good. You did that several times. WHat good is it to provide sources to you if you CHOOSE not to believe them. That is crazy talk and iam getting tired of trying to talk some sense into you.

Feminists provided a low 2-3% without any backing and a man who looked into the case found out THROUGH RESEARCH that the numbers are more into the forties, that is what the source Robinson provided say, that the radfems are trying to talk away the problem of false rape accusations, by calling everybody a liar who says otherwise.

The crime of rape is underreported and authorities tend to look down on the victims, very true. I am trying to get some input on what can be done against the REASON (false rape allegations) that authorities look down on supposed rape victims or even blame them of false accusations suspecting them to be yet another liar. You might not like it, but Iam actually on your side on this one.

No Wendy I do not make any claims, other people made the claims, Iam just aware of them.
I do not need to proove there are staggering high numbers of FALSE RAPE ACCUSATIONS DAMAGING AND TRAUMATIZING ACTUAL VICTIMS OF RAPE. Other people made those claims backed by research Iam merely reporting them. If you do not belive them, you should speak up the people who made those claims. If you believe the earth is flat speak to the scientists who say otherwise since I did never proove it, I just believe the people who say the earth is round looking at their reasoning and base my discussion around that fact.
Did you get now how it works ? If you do not agree on the premise of the question there is no point answering it is it ?

Besides Baby Yaga Wendy if you 2 believe that all those sources provided about the high numbers of false rape accusations are false and if you believe you know better than experts on the subject, why do you all bother answering annyway ?

I think that if a woman willfully makes a false accusation of rape, she should be imprisoned because of the disservice she's doing to actual rape victims.

I dont think it is possible to stop these idiots from making false accusations, it really must make it tough for a true victim, the ones that make the false accusations are absolutely evil souless people who would have a person go to prison, just to get back at them for ..whatever, but to take an accuser and give them a lie detector test or something would help the situation, but that also makes a true victim feel like a victim too I would think,....what to do, who knows.

How do you know, truly know that those allegations are false? I think in days gone by, women who where raped were more afraid to come forward. Now, it seems like everyone wants their 15 min of fame..anyway they can get it. it' sad. Maybe the media and sites like My Space web sites could play a role in not glamorizing every trashy thing someone wants to do and say and report gossip - It used to be that facts mattered in stories., Now, news shows and all the other E shows and talk shows can say anything and then say..oh, sorry it was just a rumor. In my day, we called that gossip and it was wrong. I am sorry for your sister.

We still have a long way to go with the issue of rape, women who have been raped face such humiliation and lawyers working for the rapist make it so hard on the victim - it's like getting raped twice. With all the crime lab technology, I would think being falsely accused would be pretty easy to prove. Maybe I am over simplfying.

How is an actual rape determined? Does the word of a woman override the word of a man? If not, and the woman was raped but has no evidence, how do we address that? Or are "actual rapes" determined by physical evidence?

I can't dictate what should be done to actually stop rape; most people are damn well aware that rape is wrong and only a tiny minority of men commit rape. If a rape is definitively established, however, "equal" punishment could be given or the offender could spend a few years doing some constructive work for the community rather than just sending him to jail where he could dine at the expense of taxpayers.

EDIT: DIERDRE, stop quoting a lie. A rudimentary look at the rape rate PROVES that the 2-3% of reported rapes being false is a LIE.

The whole point in this is that rapes that are actually reported have a decent probability of being false even though most women wouldn't lie about it.

It is sad to me how the justice system handles rape cases. It seems like they put the victim on trial instead of the attacker. They go after the womans personal and social life and dig up whatever dirt they can on the victim. That's just wrong! As far as stopping false accusations, I don't know unless they get arrested for filing false charges. I thought the bigger problem was how to convince more women to prosecute their attackers because of how the victims are treated. Many women are afraid of being put on trial themselves if they come forward. This needs to change!

Although it wouldn't cure this terrible problem completely, the authorities could crack down harder on the ones that are proven to be wrong in their false accusations. However, I believe every reasonable accusation should be thoroughly investigated to either A) Prosecute the offender, or B) Prove the accuser wrong and prosecute them accordingly.
If someone is being abused in any way, they should stick to what they know to be the truth, and not let it go until the offender is served justice. There is absolutely no reason that someone as sick as a sexual offender should go free like the rest of us. Stick to the case and don't let it go until the legal system serves the criminal his justice.

I know for a fact that the women or men who report being raped are given a background check. This involves any prior history of this abuse, relationships with whom, meds they might be using and any police record.
To answer this, we have to trust the justice system. It is the only way we have for now. However, I do admit that the system needs to be overhauled.

Cassius, you're just going to have to do better than that. This is an English language forum...if no one can read your post, then you "prove" NOTHING! Find it in English, or don't post it at all. And your other study I am very familiar with. It has been discredited by every scholar and authority on the matter. The methodology used for this study is terrible (Kanin, by the way, states that, within his study, the incidence of false rape report is 41%, NO WHERE NEAR YOUR STATED 95%...why post two sources (supposedly) that so blatantly contradict each other? [According to YOU, who knows what your first post actually says? It may not talk about rape at all, for all we know]). And Kanin himself says that his study is not to be extrapolated to the rest of the population, and admits, himself, that his methodology is lacking. He says, and I quote "Certainly our intent is not to suggest that the 41% incident rate here be extrapolated to other populations, particularly in light of our ignorance of structural variables." This is a quote from the man that did the study, regarding the study you use as "evidence" that "95%" of all rape reports are false. So...DISCREDITED! It is no "proof" of your claim, whatsoever. Not only do the numbers not match your claim, Kanin himself says the study is not to be used for the purpose you are using it for.
The FBI puts false rape reports at a steady 8%. (Please refer to Robinson's posted link.)
So, post something credible, IN ENGLISH, to back up your "95%" claim...or admit to making unfounded and unsupported claims. Your claim of "95%" is offensive to women and ALL rape victims.

stick by the people that this has happened to, remind all young to take precautions and hope for the best. there isnt much more that we can do really :( i no it sounds bad but its true and we also need to work on catching the pervs!!! we also need to explain to people that it is rong to accuse someone of this if its a lie and tell them it could ruin that persons life!
